Pre-Accession Country Definitions

The following countries are classified as Acceding, Accession and Applicant Countries:
  • Accession Countries: Turkey and Croatia, following the official launch of negotiations on the accession to the European Union on 4 October 2005
  • Candidate Countries: The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

In addition, the other countries of the Western Balkans are currently considered Potential Candidate Countries.
