Croatia

The EIB finances projects that support the rapid integration of Croatia into the EU.

The EIB has been active in Croatia since 2001 during which time 83% of total lending has focused on the construction and rehabilitation of transport infrastructure (EUR 805 million).

To date the EIB has provided four Global Loans (EUR 76 million) in the country, aimed at the financings of SMEs and Croatian municipalities.

The advantageous EIB loan conditions are passed onto the final SME beneficiaries through partner banks in the country.

The Future of the EIB in Croatia

The transport infrastructure sector will remain a top EIB priority (motorways, air and sea transport), however, the Bank envisages more loans in both the environmental sector (waste water treatment, Zagreb incinerator) and the health sector (Zagreb hospitals).

The Bank intends to increase direct lending to the private sector and municipalities to foster their development without state guarantees.
