Transport in the Mediterranean partner countries

Transport is one of the single most important sectors for EIB lending both within and outside the EU. Promotion of improved transport links though the Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership - FEMIP - underpins economic development in the Mediterranean region and is a significant aid in strengthening links with the EU-25 prior to the implementation of the trade-free area planned for 2010. Since 1995, 21% of the total FEMIP loan book has gone to road, rail, air and maritime projects, many of which are outlined in this brochure.
