Investments for the construction and operation of underground gas storage facilities in Cornegliano (Lombardy region).
Objectives
The project is a priority trans-European energy networks (TEN-E) project of European interest. It would increase the number of storage operators on the Italian market and increase the country’s gas storage capacity. Natural gas storage facilities play an important role in providing flexibility and security of gas supply.
Given its technical characteristics the project falls under Annex II of EC Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) directive (85/337 and amendments) and has been screened in – thus required to undertake an environmental impact study. The promoter has undertaken the necessary EIA and has received the necessary approvals and permits.
Procurement
The promoter is not considered a contracting entity in the sense of Article 2 of EU directive 2004/17/EC given that it was awarded the concession through an open procedure. The promoter’s procurement processes have been reviewed and are acceptable for the Bank.
