EIB issues in HUF

The EIB entered the Hungarian domestic bond market in 1997 with the establishment of a Domestic Debt Issuance Programme for HUF 20 billion. When the forint became fully convertible in June 2001, the EIB was the first to issue a HUF bond in the international market. In June 2002, the EIB launched a 10-year EUR fungible bond in Hungarian forint. This issue may be merged with EIB's EUR 5 billion 5.375% bond due October 2012 after Hungary has adopted the single currency under European Monetary Union.

Compared to previous years, the EIB was able to increase its volume of HUF bond issuance substantially in 2004. During 2004, the EIB issued HUF 223 billion, which was more than any other issuer in the international market, but the Hungarian Government. Total issuance by the EIB amounted to HUF 495 billion by end 2007.
