The European Investment Bank channels most of its institutional relations with Universities through an EIB-Universities Research Action consisting of three different programmes.
The EIB may also award small grants, to support specific activities of Universities that have a clear EU-wide interest, through the fund managed by the Subsidies Committee.
There is also a programme for short-term traineeships at the EIB offering a small number of students in their final years of University the possibility to discover how a EU institution operates.

The EIB-University Action Programme hosted its third annual meeting, on December 10, 2009 at the EIB-headquarters in Luxembourg. The meeting was very well attended, with participants from various universities. Since it started its activities in late 2006 under EIBURS, the Bank has launched 11 lines of research, and signed 8 research agreements on various topics. During the same period, the Bank financed 13 young researchers under STAREBEI, of which, 4 are currently under implementation and signed three memorandum of understanding with three networks: UNIMED, FEMISE and C.R.E.D.I.T.
