Technology assessment and acceleration of innovation

The EIBURS recipient was expected to be involved in academic activities (training and research) related to the technology assessment and programmes aimed at fostering innovation and the transfer of technology into valuable commercial applications. They may focus on the analysis of schemes or mechanisms that are expected to contribute to improving the innovative performance of EU enterprises and hence the competitiveness of European industries. The EIB is particularly interested in applied research concerning:

  • Design of appropriate technology transfer mechanisms or technological brokerage systems favouring the dissemination of knowledge and the commercialisation of R&D results
  • Valorisation and valuation of intellectual property rights as well as assessment methods of intangible assets
  • Rating analysis of technology transfer and innovation performance of European public research organisations
  • Analysis of public policies promoting to the emergence of innovative clusters or centers of excellence (optimal firms' composition of clusters, nature of interactions between the different partners active in the clusters, critical endogenous local or regional factors)
  • Evaluation of the contribution of R&D and innovation performance of SMEs
  • Prospective analysis of the R&D and innovation strategy of major industrial firms and scope for R&D out-sourcing
  • The impact of public R&D on the stimulation of private R&D and innovative effort and on economic growth
  • The optimal mix between grants and other financial instruments (equity, debt, etc.) along the different stages of the innovation life cycle
