Social dimensions of sustainable development
The EIBURS recipient was expected to be involved in academic activities and research related to the social dimensions of investment projects and programmes aimed at fostering economic growth and social cohesion as well as improving the environment and the quality of life of the population. They may focus on the analysis of social impacts of investment within the EU or on the social assessment of projects in less developed countries. The EIB is particularly interested in applied research concerning:
- The definition of social capital, quality of life, etc. and the possibility of including these dimensions in project assessment (cost-benefit analysis, multi-criteria analysis).
- The design and implementation of integrated urban renewal and development planning in Europe and the effects of urban investment projects (transport, utilities, urban renewal and development, human capital, etc.) on social capital, social inclusion and cohesion etc. and on the evolution of urban structure.
- The social impacts, including demographic effects (intra-EU and rural-urban migrations, age-related issues, etc.), of funding instruments aimed at supporting convergence, social integration and regional development in the EU, notably in accession/acceding countries and other areas eligible to EU Structural Funds.
- The social impact assessment and sustainability concepts (inclusion, cultural diversity, gender, culture, lifestyle, etc.) for investment projects and programmes in emerging economies.
