Jacek Rostowski, new Governor for Poland
Following the elections and formation of a new Government in Poland, Mr Jacek Rostowski has been appointed Minister of Finance, succeeding Mrs Zyta Gilowska.
Mr Rostowski, born in 1951, is a professor of economics.
In 1995-2000 and 2005-2006 he held the position of dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Central European University in Budapest.
In 1997-2001 he was Head of the Council for Macro Economic Policy in Poland’s Ministry of Finance, and in 2002-2004 advisor to the President of the National Bank of Poland (NBP).
He lectured at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University of London (1988 1995), and from 1992 to 1995 he also worked in the Centre for Economic Performance, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
From 1989 to 1991 he was economic advisor to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Leszek Balcerowicz.
A former advisor to the government of the Russian Federation on macro-economic policy, since 2004 he has been an advisor to the Board of the Bank PEKAO S.A.
He is also Co-founder of the Centre for Social and Economic Analysis (Centrum Analiz Społeczno-Ekonomicznych - CASE) and a member of the Foundation’s Council.
A graduate of the London School of Economics, Mr Rostowski has published numerous articles on the enlarged European Union, monetary policy, exchange rate policy and transformation of post-communist economies.
