Selection Process

The Bank aims to attract, develop and motivate high quality staff. The purpose of the selection process is to identify the candidates who best match the specific job requirements of the vacancies.

The EIB values the diversity of its staff and selects staff members regardless of sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation. The Bank strives for a balanced representation within its personnel.

The Bank’s Statutes (art. 11.7) require it to consider not only personal ability and qualifications when selecting staff, but also the attainment of an equitable representation of the nationals of its Member States. Applicants are selected among the nationals of Member States of the European Union. Nationals of the candidate countries whose accession negotiations have started may be also considered, although initially for fixed term contracts.

Depending on the nature of the assignment, the EIB may offer either fixed term or indefinite duration contracts.

Appointments are subject to a satisfactory pre-employment medical examination and are confirmed after a successful trial period.

What happens after you apply?

  • Once you successfully complete your on-line application, you will receive an automatic acknowledgement of receipt confirming the key elements of your application, along with the reference number, to the e-mail address that you have specified.
  • Your application will be included in the Bank’s recruitment database, and will be treated confidentially.
  • The Bank will then conduct a comparative analysis of the applications received in the light of the job requirements, and will shortlist the candidates whose qualifications and experience are judged as better adapted to the specific vacancy.
  • If your application is shortlisted for a job, you will be contacted in order to continue the selection process, which will include telephone and/or direct personal interviews.
  • For many posts, candidates are required to pass professional tests. Psychometric tests (Ability and personality assessments) are also required before being recruited for any position.
  • You will receive feedback (positive or negative) on your application as soon as a decision is made. Please bear in mind that the Bank conducts its recruitment campaigns internationally and involves both its line managers and HR in the selection processes. As a result, this may be a lengthy procedure.
