The European Investment Bank wishes to enhance its contribution to EU energy policy objectives and has made the financing of energy-related projects a new lending priority. In this context, the EIB is looking for energy specialists for its Projects Directorate (PJ). They will assess the viability of energy projects in all countries of Bank operations. They will also prepare studies related to the energy matters and contribute to the achievement of the EIB’s energy objectives.

The energy group is organised as two teams. One team specialises in energy efficiency and renewable energy, while the other focuses on conventional energy production and distribution networks. The successful candidates will be assigned to one of these teams, though flexibility is encouraged and there will be opportunites to work across the full spectrum of energy sub-sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Within multidisciplinary teams, prepare techno-economic assessments of investments in the energy sector, including assessment of compliance with environmental and procurement policies.
  • Track the evolution of the sector, and produce policy and sector papers and briefs.
  • Liase with EU institutions and international organisations on energy policy/sector questions. Participate in conferences and other sectoral events.

Qualifications

  • A Masters degree in engineering or economics. A multidisciplinary background and/or postgraduate degree would be an advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the energy sector, particularly assessment of projects in this field.
  • Good knowledge of energy matters. Economists should have in-depth knowledge of energy markets and policies, and of applied quantitative techniques. Engineering candidates should have knowledge of the key technological aspects of the sector, as well as experience with environmental impact assessments and procurement.
  • Good knowledge of risk analysis. Experience with project finance operations would be an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of English or French and a good command of the other. Working knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
